Vegan, gluten-free desserts aren’t known to be big winners, are they? Especially about frozen treats, I’ve heard them referred to as icy, flavorless, and often not worth the calories. Needless to say, I was skeptical about the hype Trader Joe’s Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars have been receiving this summer. I mean, frozen OAT bars?
What are Trader Joe’s Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars?
Chocolate fudge popsicles are one of the greatest summer treats ever!
I’m not sure I could feel more nostalgic about an ice cream treat outside of a creamsicle so when I saw these Trader Joe’s Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars during a recent haul, I decided to give them a whirl. And I’m not going to lie: I was 100% skeptical about the whole “oat” part of these popsicles.
But the reviews I’d been seeing were positive and I figured they were worth a shot!
So, these popsicles are vegan and gluten-free, which sounds a little weird for a frozen treat but stick with me here.
These bars’ primary ingredients are oat “milk” (sold at Trader Joe’s as Oat Drink), sugar, chocolate. They’re super creamy and taste totally fudgy! And surprisingly, you cannot not taste the oat “milk” AT ALL!

You can find these Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars in the frozen aisle of Trader Joe’s nestled among the other ice cream and frozen treats like the Hold the Cone! Mini Cones and the Mini Mint Ice Cream Mouthfuls, and down just a few steps from the Wildberry Cheesecake Ice Cream and the Southern Peach Crisp Ice Cream.
How to Serve Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars
OK, let’s not make this a big process. You’re just going to tear open a wrapper and dig in!
As with all frozen treats, I recommend letting one of these bars sit at room temperature for a couple of minutes before eating. Not only that make these bars be a little easier to eat, but as the bars warm up, the chocolate flavor will also intensify.
That’s right! It’s hard to taste the flavor of suuuuper cold foods so giving them some time to warm up with actually make them taste better!
As skeptical as I was about these Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars, it turns out that I really loved them! You can barely taste the oat milk so if you’re not an oat milk fan, you’ve got nothing to worry about here!
The chocolate fudge flavor really comes through and they taste almost exactly like the fudgsicles I remember from my childhood. The only difference I could find between the two was that the dairy-free version is a little icier than the original version. It’s not a bad thing; it’s just a little noticeable.
My husband, Kyle, who is the biggest skeptic I know about any food that deviates from its original version, actually really liked these fudgy oat popsicles too! I was shocked that he tried one of the bars without my prompting to start with, but doubly shocked when he told me he enjoyed them.
Buy It Again?
I’ve already bought these Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars a number of times this spring and summer and I definitely plan to keep them in our regular dessert rotation at least for the rest of the summer. They’re just so darn good!!
