Halloween Joe Joe’s have hit the shelves for the season at Trader Joe’s!! It’s finally spooky season and we are ready for it!!
Keep reading for our exclusive cart rating with review, pictures and our notorious “Dunk Test!”
What are Trader Joe’s Halloween Joe Joe’s Cookies?
Trader Joe’s has a variety of different flavored Joe-Joe’s depending on the season. These Halloween cookies are a seasonal cookie made with the same ingredients as their original Joe-Joe.
The cookie itself is chocolate, which obviously for Halloween is a must. The filling in the center is their signature vanilla bean cream! The cookie is darker than just a plain chocolate cookie, so I think they might use coffee powder, listed in the ingredients to get that rich black color of the cookie.
The vanilla bean cream sandwiched in between the two crunchy chocolate cookies is dyed orange, of course for Halloween.
These cookies are cut out to look like different fun pumpkin faces! The dark color of the actual cookie contrasted with the bright orange vanilla bean cream filling is the perfect color combination for Halloween.
Where In the Store?
I found these fun Halloween Joe-Joe’s in the frozen aisle! Trader Joe’s always uses their shelving space wisely, and this is no different. The shelves above the freezer items are lined with goodies! Everything from cookies and candy to crackers!
A few items from the shelves in the frozen section that we’ve reviewed are:
- Pumpkin Joe-Joe’s (seasonal)
- Chocolatey Coated Chocolate Chip Cookie Dunkers
- Maple Leaf Cookies (seasonal)
- Vanilla Baton Wafers
- Chocolate and Peanut Butter Joe-Joe’s
- Crispy Peanut Butter Filled Milk Chocolate Peanuts
- Almond Windmill Cookies
- Chocolate Covered Wafer Cookie with Peanut Butter Filling
How to Serve Trader Joe’s Halloween Joe Joe’s Cookies
I served these cookies to myself straight out of the package with an ice cold glass of milk. I had to do the obligatory “Dunk Test” for the fans.
Of course, there are a few other ways you can serve or use these cookies! An ice box cake is a wonderful idea for the season, maybe paired with Trader Joe’s Pumpkin flavored Ice Cream! You could also crush the cookies up into pieces and sprinkle them into a brownie batter for a “cookies and cream brownie.” Another fun idea would be to create a “dirt pudding pie” with the crushed up cookies. Add in some gummy worms and voila you have a fun Halloween dessert!
THE DUNK TEST
Even though I really wasn’t a fan of these cookies, they totally passed my Dunk Test.
They stood up quite well being dunked a few times in the ice cold milk. The cookie didn’t crumble apart and make a big mess in the glass. The bite that I took was just the perfect amount of milk soaked into the crispy cookie!
Trader Joe’s offers a bunch of varieties of Joe-Joe’s, here are a few of them!
Honestly, I was VERY let down with these cookies. They were so underwhelming to the point where I couldn’t even taste the vanilla bean in the cream filling.
The orange filling in the center of the cookie was gummy and had a weird consistency. It didn’t remind me of their other Joe-Joe’s. I took one of the cookies apart after trying a whole one just to taste the cream filling. It wasn’t good, to the point where I didn’t even want to finish it.
The cookies themselves were just okay. They didn’t have much flavor to them at all, I was so disappointed. I’ve tried a bunch of their other flavors and I have loved every single other flavor. You would think the original flavor of the Joe-Joe, the real O.G. (Original Gangster) would be the best, but in my opinion, it’s the worst.
I would totally use these in something to bake with instead of just eating them on their own. I listed a few fun ways to use these cookies above, but another recipe to try are Halloween “Mud Slides!!” Blend some of these cookies up whole with your favorite Vodka, Khalua, Chocolate Liqueur and top with fresh whipped cream and chocolate syrup, an adult drink of course!
Now that sounds like a delicious dessert drink!!
Buy It Again?
I can say with certainty that I will not be purchasing these Joe-Joe’s again. I usually always have somewhat of a good review to leave with most products from Trader Joe’s, but this one was a thumbs down for me.
Have you tried any of the different flavored Joe-Joe’s? Which kind is your absolute favorite? Tell us in the comments below! Happy Spooky Season!
