The newest Trader Joe’s popcorn to hit the shelves is Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn and it’s a DOOZY! It’s a mishmash of flavors that will have your head spinning and tastebuds tingling.
What is Trader Joe’s Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn?
Well well well. What do we have here, my friends? It’s a new popcorn flavor at Trader Joe’s!
Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn is a seasonal item that’s brought Flavor Town back to Trader Joe’s in the best way possible. The seasoning mix is a blend of spicy, tangy, smoky, salty, and a little sweet.
In fact, the mix of flavors reminds me of my BBQ spice mix that I use to make Chex mix and compound butter for grilled corn. And if you’re a popcorn fan who loves complex flavors that play off of each other, the Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn is going to be for you.
Where In the Store?
You can find the Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn in the chips aisle of Trader Joe’s nestled among the other popcorn flavors.
How to Serve Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn
Like any other human being, your first instinct will be to plunge your hand into the freshly opened bag of this popcorn. Go for it!
Honestly, there’s no reason to be fancy with popcorn, especially if you’re eating it by yourself. You know like, in the car on the way home from TJ’s, or on a Friday night while binge-watching your favorite Netflix/Hulu/Prime show.
However, you could certainly make a big ol’ popcorn mix with this popcorn and some other popcorn flavors. Mixing it with the OG Smartfood, TJ’s caramel cheddar popcorn, or just plain butter popcorn would all make an excellent snack!
You could also make a whole new snack mix! Simply stir it into a bowl of pre-made Chex mix or a snack mix that you make from scratch with pretzels, peanuts, cheddar crackers like Cheez-Its, chocolate covered raisins.
I made my own little mix with the Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn, All Mixed Up snack mix, and Mini Cheese Crackers, all from Trader Joe’s. What a great snack!!
How could you possibly go wrong with so many textures and different flavors?!
If you’re a fan of crunchy, spicy snacks, the Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn is going to be exactly what you’re looking for!
For me, however, the heat was a bit overpowering. I’m not aversive to spicy snacks but the cayenne powder in the spice mix was too much. It actually seems to throw off the balance of flavors, and thus, desynergized the popcorn.
I tasted a little bit of the tangy flavor, a little smokiness, a touch of salt, and verrrry little sweetness. It’s not that I expected much on the sweet side since even the bag label notes that there’s only a hint of sweetness happening here, but I feel like a wee more sugar would have helped to balance the spiciness.
All of this notwithstanding, I still found the mix of flavors to be quite addictive! To me, the addictiveness is like eating buffalo wings: you’ll sweat through the experience for some really good flavor.
The popcorn itself – without the seasoning – was kind of a let down. It was a little stale and cardboard-ish! Admittedly, I’ve only ever eaten the Trader Joe’s caramel cheddar popcorn, which I never felt was stale. But then again, I haven’t eaten it with my “reviewer cap” on yet so maybe I’ll feel differently the next time I eat it.
Anyway, maybe it was just my batch of popcorn that was a little stale. If you’ve tried other popcorn flavors from Trader Joe’s and never had an issue with the freshness, I’d say give the Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn a shot.
Buy It Again?
Meh. I’m not sure if I’ll be giving the Synergistically Seasoned Popcorn another ride in my TJ’s cart.
As it is, I bought 2 bags of this stuff with the blind expectation that I would love it, so I have some extra to push through before it’s all gone.
That said, if spicy snacks are your thang, I think you’ll love this popcorn. Make sure you get out there to get some for yourself since it’s a spring seasonal item at TJ’s!
